BE POLITE

Shiva was a poor man but he was kind to everyone. One day, on his way home, he saw a calf. It had no home. So he brought the calf home. He called it Nandi. Siva looked after Nandi as his own child. He gave it green grass to eat every day. Nandi grew up to become a strong ox. Nandi now wanted to return the love to Siva. One day, Nandi told Sive, “Take me to the market and everyone that I can a hundred bullock carts. People will not believe you and they will be willing to offer a huge amount of money to see me pull a hundred carts. In this way, you will become rich.”

POLITE

Siva liked the idea and set out for the market with Nandi. There he called out to all, “My Nandi can pull a hundred carts! My Nandi can pull a hundred carts!” On hearing this, nobody believed him. But among them, a rich businessman challenged Siva, “I will give you a hundred gold coins if your ox can pull a hundred carts.” Hundreds of carts were quickly arranged in a line. People gathered to see what Nandi did. Siva shouted at Nandi, “Hey! You! I order you to pull these carts quickly .”

But Nandi did not move. “What’s your problem? I’m in big trouble if you don’t act.” Nandi whispered in Siva’s ear, Why did you speak so rudely to me?”

BE POLITE

Immediately, Siva realised his mistake and called out lovingly to Nandi, “My dear Nandi, please move these carts and show how strong you are.” On hearing the polite words, Nandi pulled all the hundred carts. Everyone was surprised. In this manner, Nandi helped Siva to earn a hundred gold coins. Siva learnt the value of being polite.
