This morning, our class teacher, Miss Keerthana, told us the story of Shravan Kumar. It is very old but we remember it. Long ago, a boy named Shravan Kumar lived with his parents. They were very poor and blind. Shravan parents. They were very poor and blind. Shravan Kumar took great care of his parents. He understood how his poor and blind parents suffered to bring him up.
One day, Shravan’s parents told him about their wish to go on a pilgrimage. He knew that it was not easy as they were old and weak. Still, he wanted to fulfil their wish. So he decided to carry his parents to the holy places.
The next morning, he took a strong bamboo stick. At each end of the stick, he tied a long strong rope. At the end of the ropes on both sides, he tied two baskets. He helped his father sit in one basket and his mother, in the other.
Then he lifted the bamboo and adjusted it on his shoulder. In this way, he carried his old blind parents to different pilgrim centres.
At every place he described the temple they visited. Though the journey was long and hard, he carried his parents cheerfully.
“This is how we remember Shravan Kumar even after so many thousands of years,” said our teacher Mis Keerthana.
