Moong Dal Kheer Recipe / Pesara Pappu Payasam

Moong dal or split yellow and green gram is quite a nutritious legume that people consume, especially in India. We will be discussing the various benefits of moong dal, nutritional value and a few recipes that you can try in the comfort of your home.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 small cup Moong Dal/Pesara Pappu/Green Gram
  • 1 small cup of Wheat Rava
  • 11/2 cup Sugar or Jaggery
  • 1 cup Whole Milk (boiled)
  • 1 sp Elaichi Powder
  • few chopped Cashew Nuts
  • 2 sp Raisins
  • 2 sp Dry Coconut Pieces
  • 4 sp Ghee

INSTRUCTIONS

Dry or Gee roast moong dal and Wheat rava for a while, then transfer the moong dal and rava to a pressure cooker and wash well. Add 3 cups of water + 1 sp Ghee and pressure cook for 3 whistles, once done turn off the flame and allow it to cool.

Once cooled remove the lid transfer the cooked moong dal and rava to a bowl and keep aside.

Combine sugar (jaggery) and 1/2 cup of water in a pan. Boil on medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.

Remove from the heat syrup into the cooked moong dal bowl and mix well, continue to cook for a couple of mins.

Heat the remaining ghee in a small pan fry cashews, raisins and coconut slivers, then pour over the moong dal payasam. Add elaichi powder and mix well, at this stage turn off the flame.

Add milk and mix everything well. Now yummy and tasty moong dal payasam/kheer is ready to offer as naivedyam for Goddess Lakshmi Devi.

After that transfer into serving bowls and serve, it can be served hot or cold.
